F. sends me fun craft stuff to my del.icio.us account (which is very appreciated btw) like this ‘Home Sweet Home’ pattern he found. Here is the first one I made for J. with DMC green 911. I have been debating for a while if I should add anything, like a couple of hearts or a “swooshy thing” at the bottom, but the geeks I know said it looks fine like this. I’ll go with the IT crowd then and start a second one for F. This time it will be faster, cause although I used this neat tool to calculate the size, I didn’t really trust the result after my experience with the Eeyore-pattern (post to follow) and wasted quite a bit of material to be on the safe side.

Finished project: birth sampler 1
September 11, 2008Summer 2008 was the baby summer with Carl Jakob (Belgium), Emily Sophia (Germany), Daniela (Ireland) and Sarah Louise (Switzerland). I still haven’t mailed everything (or finished, that is) but I am confident that this will happen before the kids have the right to vote in their respective countries.
Here is the first birth sampler I made, C. is a big ‘Sendung mit der Maus’- Fan and doesn’t appreciate baby colors. I am quite happy with the result and glad I ordered the little booklet, a lot of us grew up loving the show so I am sure I will get good use out of it.

Finished project: toy lobster
September 10, 2008Couldn’t say no when S. asked me if I could make him a toy lobster that he had found here. It looked like fun, and S. is a huge lobster fan. Here is the result before I sent it to its final destination in Bordeaux – by the sea.
Those were my first English instructions that I used, and it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought thanks to the great instructions made by Molly.
How about an action shot, S.?

Cheesecake with cream cheese substitute
September 10, 2008Although I still haven’t found a shop that sells cream cheese here, I found a substitute that works quite well: St. Môret (too salty alone) with ricotta and fromage blanc, some extra sugar and a bit of flour (too much fromage blanc?). for the base, I used crumbled palets bretons. Anyway, the hot rasperries covered up eventual flaws nicely.
